The airstrip at the Sandpiper Golf Course / Rowena's Inn is one of the gems of general aviation in Southern BC. It is a private airstrip however the owners have for a long time granted blanket permission for aviators to visit their little slice of paradise.

Whether you are flying to Sandpiper to play golf, have a fantastic meal or just to visit the magnificent property, it is important to remember that as pilots we are fortunate to have the privilege to use this airstrip. It is not our right it is very much our privilege. A privilege that is afforded to us by the management at Sandpiper / Rowena's.

In order to maintain this privilege, the BCGA has created a webpage outlining the details of the Sandpiper strip. We urge you to consider using this page as part of your pre-flight preparation prior to flying into Sandpiper. We will be in touch with the management of the property and will use the page to communicate any restrictions or special notices or requests from the Sandpiper / Rowena's management.

Please use this page and the information contained in it as a tool so that as pilots we are all on the same page and can continue to benefit from the generosity and hospitality of the Sandpiper Golf Course and Rowena's Inn.

the web address for the new page is:

With no runway numbers assigned at Rowena, what would the appropriate call be. Using the video posted as an example, would the pilot have called "downwind left for south landing"?

Sharon,
That would be the best way. "Downwind Left for a southbound landing" or "Taking off northbound"

BTW, thanks for the awesome photograph!!

I'm unable to find any official information on this airstrip, and wonder how long it is, and if someone has the GPS location.
Thanks Martin

Hi Martin. If you go to Google Maps and right click, they have a "measure distance" tool. I used this tool from the turnaround circle on the south end to the bend at the north end, and found the length to be about 590m (1900ft). I suspect the usable length to be shorter though (powerlines, bridge, etc).

Not sure about the GPS location. Sorry. Are you planning to fly in sometime? I'd love to have a discussion with anyone interested in off airport stuff!
